Notice to the media in relation to reopening of Marysville from Dr Lachlan Fraser
Likely opening date for residents: Friday 20th March
Access for general public/media- End of March
Marysville and the Triangle Region, including the towns of Narbethong and Buxton, are devastated by the inferno that swept through on Black Saturday 7 February, 2009. Our people are traumatised and are slowly regrouping and gathering strength. We would ask that you be sensitive to our needs, our grief and our privacy. We would remind you that filming of residents on individual properties should not be done unless permission is given. If you ask you will probably find that we are able to help. We understand that the wider community needs to see the devastation, to enable their own grief process and to aid them to aid us. I am calling on residents who are willing to talk on camera in Marysville to give me their names so I can pass them on to media. There may be some residents or myself who would be willing to show media around the town when it is reopened but we request that we be allowed our time to grieve in that first week. There may be a quieter time towards the end of the day that is more appropriate. Thank you for your cooperation, Dr. Lachlan Fraser (phone 0438 642 426 or snow.doc@hotmail.com)
